How did editing get so hard? Since I started to teach it!
Amidst the turmoil of real life, I finally started to put pencil to manuscript. I don’t know if I’m second guessing my original draft or not. I feel like I’m chopping dialogue in half and wonder if I need to make my Prologue longer.
I’ve edited eight books before now and rarely had an issue. I can’t help but wonder if it’s stress. Stress of working two jobs, stress of my grandma being in hospital and the extra time that is taking away. No guarantees but I can’t help but wonder.
I’d like to get this book published for a few reasons. For starters, it pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI. That was last summer. The longer I take, the closer I get to the 101st anniversary of WWI. Mind you, my hero died in 1918 so I do have some time and I can copyright it under 2014 still but all those ideas are slowly fading with the time it’s taking me to get to it!
I also have a class to prepare for and emails to send out. I had a number of people who were excited to enroll their kids in the updated program but I have only had a single registration. Depressing!!
So I will hopefully return to my manuscript this afternoon and maybe be able to view it in a better light. Try to look at flow and voice and stop dropping the axe! I don’t want to take away from character traits unique to each person. I want to keep the emotion I created with the original draft but how do I look at it from that perspective and not affect the flow.
Perhaps I have to stop worrying that it is the shortest of my novels. Look at it in a different perspective. Yes, that’s what I’ll try to do…
Wish me luck!
